Indoblast copper slag grit is a premium by-product produced during the smelting of copper, which is then meticulously processed into high-performance abrasive products. Typically, it is composed of ferrosilicate and oxides formed when the molten slag is quenched in cold water.
This specialized cooling process fractures the slag into coarse, angular particles, making it an ideal choice for a variety of industrial applications. As a low-cost expendable abrasive, Indoblast is perfectly suited for open blast cleaning. Thanks to its low silica content, it does not pose the health hazards typically associated with silica sand. Its sharp, hard particles provide fast cleaning action and an excellent surface profile.
| Constituent | % Weight |
|---|---|
| Silica (SiO2) [combined as silicate] | 26 - 30% |

| Alumina (Al2O3) | 1 - 3% |
| Iron Oxide as FeO | 42 - 48% |
| Calcium Oxide (CaO) | 1 - 2% |
| Magnesium Oxide (MgO) | 0.8 - 1.5% |
| Copper Oxide (CuO) | 0.60 - 0.70% |
| Sulphates | 0.02 - 0.3% |
| Chlorides | 0.001 - 0.002% |
| Property | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Colour | Black, glassy |
| Grain Shape | Angular, multifaceted |
| Hardness | 7 Moh |
| Specific Gravity at 25°C | 3.5 |
| Bulk Density at 25°C | 1.87 tonnes/m3 |
| pH | 7.0 |
| Conductivity at 25°C | 2 mS/m |
| Weight raise on Ignition | 4% |
| Moisture Content | < 0.1% |
| Grade | Size Range (mm) | Cleanliness Level | Surface Profile (Microns) | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coarse | 0.2 - 2.4 | Sa 2 ½ / SP 10 | 100 | The ultimate size for tough heavy duty blast jobs, thick rust, and coatings removal. |
| Medium | 0.5 - 1.4 | Sa 3 / SP 5 | 75 | An all-purpose size for medium to heavy rust or coatings removal. |
| Fine | 0.2 - 1.0 | Sa 3 / SP 5 | 40 | Cleaning new material and removal of light coatings. |
High resistance to shatter compared to other expendable abrasives. Ensures less breakdown of particles, enhancing cutting power and minimizing dust nuisance.
Many-faceted angular grains provide a large number of cutting edges for rapid removal of old coatings, rust, and millscale.
Rated between 6 and 7 on the Mohs scale. Indoblast bites efficiently into rust, millscale, and the toughest coatings.
High specific gravity generates immense energy at the work surface, resulting in exceptionally fast cleaning rates.
